MY DESIGN PORTFOLIO

Samples of my Work

I have designed a creative mixed-media video journal using elements of dance and storytelling. The journal’s central theme is food citizenship, which I unfold in a series of layers, revealed chapter-wise, as highlighted on the third slide. These chapters showcase key lessons in my journey to food citizenship, including learning to eat to nourish my body, celebrating the cultural diversity of my diet, incorporating minimalism in food preparation, to ultimately growing food locally and practicing new, more inclusive, narratives when talking about food citizenship in everyday life.

To me, Instagram highlights the true power of community. What is great about this app is that it serves a platform for people to interact, engage, communicate and collaborate . For although it may seem at first like there is just one lens,  if you dare to look deeper, you realize that there's multiple lenses, all neatly cocooned into one.

Using a framework of the 3 S's, namely Style, Scope and Substance, my video seeks to demonstrate how Instagram holds the potential to radically transform users into culturally creative change agents, through systemic empathy and integrative thinking.

In this design, I have tried to apply 'intentional empathy' and ‘integrative thinking’ in all of my work. By deliberately putting myself in others shoes, I have made an effort to walk someone else's talk, and see the world through fresh eyes. The 5 building blocks/layers of this design are empathy, inclusivity, empowerment,  creativity and collaboration/community.

I take you through a journey of the snow Cinema in Dubai and how it helped bring hundreds, if not thousands, of Dubai residents out of their homes and also out of traditional cinemas post-lockdown!

In this piece, I reflect on my workspace and how it works for me, its "affordances and constraints" and the "flows" that feature in its design.

While most storyboards rely on conventional animations, illustrations and drawing skills, I decided to tap into a local folk art style, inspired by Elizabeth Dori Tunstall's work in design anthropology. Firstly, the narrative makes use of phrases in Marwari, one of the many ethnic languages spoken in Rajasthan, also sharing its southwest border with Gujarat. Secondly, it brings to the forefront the deeply sacred relationship of the locals with the rain, while also honouring truth, friendship, and love.
