MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
HIGHLY COMMENDED-EXCELLENCE IN GENDER EQUALITY AWARD
This award recognises my contributions to the enhancement of gender equality at Warwick through my podcast aimed at liberating curricula and organising outreach projects to diversify engineering and build more inclusive environments and experiences through everyday behaviours.
The award recognised my academic performance in tandem with my contribution to Warwick’s local and wider community, as an ambassadorial MSc student, Design Thinking Coach, Student Engagement Officer and workshop facilitator to name a few. More specifically, I was acknowledged for my use of interdisciplinary to create visible impact in the areas of sustainability, food, women in science and self-discovery. Following the win, I was interviewed by FindAMasters on my journey as a postgraduate student, and more specifically, as an Indian in the UK.
WARWICK SKILLS PORTFOLIO AWARD
The award recognised my personal development in Emotional Intelligence, Assertiveness and Speed Reading as an undergraduate. I undertook skills training in these areas, after which I created SMART goals , a plan to achieve them, measure progress and finally reflect on it. For instance, when it came to emotional intelligence, I created a schedule for activities I enjoyed, such as yoga, exercise, dancing, painting, journalling and meditation and I stuck to this schedule even during tests and exams. If I felt the words I was using during conversations were either aggressive or passive, during a group meeting, I replaced them with bolder ones such as I think, I believe, I feel. I made similar corrections in my written conversation to colleagues. As for speed reading, I read 1 book per month for leisure with a targeted speed- 300-350 words per minute, and practiced selective reading and skim reading prior to my seminars.
LEADERSHIP
I was selected to attend the Sprint Programme at University, a four-day programme on personal development for female undergraduates, wherein I learnt to become more assertive and confident in my skills and abilities.
As a result of attending this programme,
I feel more comfortable saying ‘I don’t’ know/understand’ something, thus viewing it as an opportunity to broaden my knowledge,
I have become more conscious of the role that my posture plays in whether or not I feel confident and assertive. I have made a conscious effort to sit more comfortably instead of keeping my hands folded and feet crossed
I realised the strong connection between assertiveness and emotional health. For example, I feel more emotionally balanced when I am being honest and assertive, instead of passive (I would regret this later on) or aggressive(I would ruin my peace of mind)
SHEIKH HAMDAN AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED STUDENT
The award recognised my academic achievement, environmental activities, volunteering, among other skills.
DIANA AWARD FOR VOLUNTEERING
I love volunteering for environmental causes such as Beach Clean Ups and Tree Planting. I have also participated in activities and initiated campaigns that aim to better integrate and include those with special needs in society, in Dubai, India and in Spain. I did so by conducting Pop-Up Card Workshops during Diwali for them, asking them to participate in my Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, and gifting them handmade (origami) flowers and cards during Children's Day and Father's Day, among other special occasions.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
I was selected to set up my kiosk of handmade articles made from reusable materials at YEC (Young Entrepreneurs Competition) in Dubai as well as at a self-organized event in Spain (collectively sold goods worth £40)
